Alec Aarons, former full-time digital print operator at theprintspace, elaborated on his practice today during his informal lecture which summarised the printing process and included several tips on how to get the most value out of a print. Following this discussion around the technicalities of printing, I was able to speak to Alec personally about my most recent interim prints. Both myself and Alec agreed on the matte presentation for my large scale prints. From here I was recommended to look at some of the paper types offered by Fresh Aire (https://freshaire.co.uk/), Alec’s newly established printing service. As Alec provided several samples of the paper types I was able to gather a good sense of the weight, texture and overall quality of the paper. From the selection, I was particularly fond of the Hahnemühle collection, most notably the Bamboo, Photo Rag and German Etching, which had this textured matte finish.
